Guided Tours

Guided tours are at 10:30am and 2:30pm Tuesday-Friday, and by request Saturday and Sunday until 3:30pm. They last about 1 - 1.5 hours and include access to the interior of the Kershaw Mansion, McCaa’s Tavern, and the 18th-century Craven House, in addition to everything else available on the self-guided tour. Both the Kershaw Mansion and McCaa’s Tavern are ADA accessible, however, the Craven House has a six step exterior stair. The guided tour also involves walking up and down a hill, however, permission to drive to the Kershaw Mansion, (on top of the hill), is allowed for guided tours.

NOTE: Because we are a very small staff, some guided tours may not be available due to staff and volunteer availability because of other events or school tours going on at that time. We apologize for the inconvenience. Feel free to call ahead to ensure a tour is scheduled for the time you plan to visit.

School Group Tours

School tours are a Historic Camden specialty. Are you looking for an exciting adventure for students this year? Come visit Historic Camden and learn the exciting story of our young country’s fight for independence! Learn about Camden’s founding father Joseph Kershaw and General Lord Cornwallis who took over Mr. Kershaw's home and used it as the British Army’s headquarters for almost a year! Student group visits and field trips to Historic Camden bring these and other 18th Century characters to life, engaging and inspiring 21st-Century minds with hands-on activities like quill-writing and Colonial games. To schedule your students contact our Site Coordinator at (803)432-9841 or elyse@historiccamden.org. Reservations are needed at a minimum of 4 weeks in advance.
