ARTISAN LIVING HISTORY
At least once a month the entire campus of Historic Camden comes alive with hands-on artisan workshops, living history demonstrations, and more. This is a great opportunity for visitors to see our historic homes inside and out, and engage with our very talented trades people at the brickyard, pottworks, forge, farm and weavery as they demonstrate their trades using 18th century tools and technology.
FORGE
Resident blacksmiths Jack and Rick will demonstrate their trade and will talk about the new blacksmith shop being built with a water powered trip hammer.
POTTERY SHOP
Meet our resident potters Meta and Marti and learn all about John Bartlam, Camden’s first resident potter 1775-1781 and the maker of the first porcelain in America.
WOODWORKS GUILD
Join master woodworker Philip Hultgren and the Woodworks Guild in as they demonstrate 18th century methods of timber framed construction.
WEAVERY
Skilled artisans illustrate the steps involved in the weaving process, from spinning thread to creating fabric through hand-weaving on colonial looms.
