THE FORGE
Historic Camden is working to bring visitors a variety of ways in which they can engage with history. The iron forge is now operating on a regular basis, with blacksmiths demonstrating during each month’s open house. The forge is also host to the annual meeting of the Philip Simmons Blacksmith Guild each August.
The Iron Forge
We have three very talented blacksmiths that visitors can watch plying their trade at the forge about 3-days a week.
Ely Kershaw’s Sword
On display at Historic Camden is Patriot Lt. Col. Ely Kershaw’s sword and scabbard dated 1774. Alongside is an amazing replica of the sword and scabbard by Calvin Duke, one of our blacksmiths..
Utilitarian Tools
In the 18th century the blacksmith was an integral part of everyday life. They produced everything from nails to sewing needles. They also produced knives, swords, eating utensils, door hinges, door locks, and horseshoes just to name a few items.
MAKE A DIFFERENCE
The Historic Camden Foundation is not state or federally funded so we relay on individual donations. Even a small donation truly helps. So please send a gift and make a difference!
